While of course you can choose to use whatever default web browser you like, this website was designed to be viewed with Internet Explorer v8+
Some basics which can help you to get the most out of our Website
 Best Viewed
A screen resolution set to at least 1024x768. Although the site is compatible with most web browsers, it is best viewed with Internet Explorer 7.x or FireFox 3.x or higher.
 Error Messages when submitting forms
If you receive an error message when submitting information via any one of our online forms please do not resubmit the information before first checking the results page to see if the information was in fact posted. Our website, with over 4,000 page views per week can sometimes get a bit crowded and can be subject to error messages if too many people are trying to do the same thing at the same time. This rarely happens.
 Navigating our website
There are three drop-down menus at the top of almost every page on the site.
Helpful Links: Contains links to the general areas of the site like registration & update forms, home page, etc.
Main Website Features: Contains links to most of the special features offered by our website.
Photos, Fun & More: Speaks for itself
Signing into (registering) with our website
To have your name, and optionally your email address and the State you live in, listed on your class's home page, you must use the registration form. The information you supply with this form is sent directly to the site's webmaster and is entered into a "private" database. NOTE: Although the registration form also requests additional information, such as your street address and telephone number, this information is never posted on our website. The information is used and made available to people such as those organizing a reunion.
Please note that your information is NOT automatically posted to your class's home page, but is manually entered into the database to ensure continuity of information. An example might be someone using ALL CAPITAL letters or AOL users who still don't realize that a screen name is not an email address unless followed by the @aol.com. Please allow up to a week for your information to appear, although it is usually posted within a couple days..
Making updates/changes to the information you supplied
All updates to your information must be made via the "Registration Update Form". There is a link to this form on each class's home page. Information submitted in any other way may not be properly handled.
 Posting comments
When you submits comments to your class via the "Submit Comments" form, those comments are also duplicated and appear on the "All Comments" results page. To have a comment appear only on the all comments page, and not on your individual class home page, simply use the class year of 0000 in lieu of your actual class year.
Submitting info for our "In Memory of. . . " page
The "In Memory of form" is used to make submissions to this area. Please note that submissions made to this page are not verified and may contain errors. If you should notice an error or have additional information to add to a listing, please send an email to: Webmaster@westwoodalumni.com
Help with Locating former Classmates or any Westwood Alumni
Our website includes an "In Search of Page" and "Submission Form" where you can either post information about alumni you might be looking to contact. Please note that it is greatly appreciated that if you have posted an in search of listing and have received the information that you were looking for, that you notify Webmaster@westwoodalumni.com so that listing can be removed from the page.
Problems and/or Questions regarding our website
As with any website, problems can occur ranging from anything as simple as a misunderstanding of a function, to actual coding problems with the site itself. If you run into a problem with the site or have a question you would like to ask, please email me.
Please note that my experience has been that the majority of problems have occurred when older or "non mainstream" browsers are used. Older would refer to Internet Explorer older then v.6 or v.7 and Firefox older then v. 3. Non-Mainstream refers to browsers such as Opera, Google Chrome, MSN Explorer, AOL's branded browser and others. A favorite saying of mine is that there is nothing wrong with "thinking outside the box", but if you do, don't expect to try and then use the box.
 What's a "browser window"?
When you click on some links within this site (especially photographs), a second browser may open up to show the larger image. To return to the website, simply close the second window that opened. I have been working on implementing a "Close Window" script which will now be found on most browser windows that open.
 Submitting your photos
Photos must be sent in digital format, such as .jpg, .tif, psd, etc. - I can handle most any format.
Photos can be sent as either an email attachment or on a cd/dvd via conventional mail. (address at bottom of page)

Note: If you wish to send photos via an email attachment, and you wish to send more than 3 or 4 photos, they MUST be in .zip format. If you don't know how to zip pictures, a brief tutorial is available at: http://www.winzip.com/aboutzip.htm  Although there are a number of free .zip utilities available, WinZip is considered by most the easiest and best utility for .zip processing. You can also download a free evaluation copy at:
http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm

A couple of things to keep in mind:
1. Most internet service providers limit attachment size to 10mb. Keep this in mind if you are zipping a group of photos. You may need to send more then one email.
2. The higher the resolution the better. Although, if you know how, you can resize images to lower their file size, thus allowing for more to be sent as an attachment at once, it is usually best to send photos at full resolution. From there, I can do proper resizing and/or enhancements for viewing on our website.
