Some of the " local" members of the class of '47 arranged a
little "welcome home" luncheon for two of our classmates who
we have not seen since 1947. Joan Pennell Kardel from Tucson, Arizona
and Pat Lindsay Shakeshober from Copake, N.Y. were warmly greeted by 24
hastily gathered friends on Thursday August 3rd. The site of the affair
was " Fiddleheads" in Closter who could not have treated us
nicer. Their hospitality ( and food ) went far beyond what we would have
expected them to do. Another welcome arrival was J'Ann Ward Gibbs from
Ohio, who also, we have not seen in many a year. It surely a GREAT day
for all, even with a few happy tears being shed. ... |

| On the left
is a picture taken in about 1939 of two fellows named Don. In this
picture they were a part of a recital of Florence Fredricks's dance
school. The one on the left is Don Thomas, who lived on Lyons Place,
Westwood and the other is Don Regula, who lived on Lowell Street,
Westwood. They went all through school as best friends from Kindergarten
in Berkley Ave to graduating together in 1947 from the Third Ave High
School. They both continued their schooling and both became medical
doctors and pursued their careers in different parts of the country. The
picture on the right was taken 60 years later in 1999 when they
connected again. At present they are both retired and both living on
sizable farms. Don Thomas in Kentucky and Don Regula in New York State.
They are, once again, best friends. |
